This movie is a prime example of the time that it came out in. Everthing was PG13 - R rated movies were practically a myth.
The only thing they achieved by giving this dreary drama, that no under 17 year old would want to watch, was to ensure that it could never live up to its convictions. Though they were pretty weak. A white woman defending the honour of her oppressed third world war torn black fake country just smacked of incensarity.
