(2005) The Interpreter.
THRILLER.
The set- up has Nicole Kidman as Silvia as an interpreter for the African language Ku accidently stumbling on some ramblings about an assasination plot involving the African consulat! Sean Penn as Tobin (National secuity) hired to investigate the situation!
Great first half, loses steam on the second half and the reason is, that director Sydney Pollack of well known films such as "Three Days of the Condor" and "Jermiah Johnson" may have lost 'creative control' when the film went halfway through into it and instead went into ridiculus mode where a terrorist bomber evades police and then successfully blows up a bus with innocent civilians inside. The people involve with the case know and suspect what happened and the US government doesn't declare war or even cancel the UN meeting altogether against the extremists of the country involved is too far fetch and absurd! Another similar film was done in similar fashion which was also ridiculous was "The Siege" released in 1998 starring Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis! The film doesn't even address all the questions such as whether or not it was intended for Silvia to even hear about the assassination plot!
2 out of 4.
