Review of The Interpreter (2005) by Mrs T — 09 Aug 2009
I found this political thriller riveting. Nicole Kidman plays a South African interpreter, working at the UN. She overhears someone discussing plans to assassinate an African president, whom she herself has cause to hate.
The plot spirals on from there, with Sean Penn (awful poofy hair and all) coming onto the scene as the secret service officer charged with keeping her safe. I was so relieved that they didn't push a hot and heavy romance between Penn and Kidman.
The movie just didn't call for that, and it was so much better left as just an exchange of human kindness.
