Review of The International (2009) by Aidan H — 31 Oct 2009
Nice casting and very pretty locations and visuals make this an entertaining watch.
The story is a bit of a let down unfortunately and whilst its complex and layered, there didn't seem to be any real reason for it. The whole concept of global corporations and corruption are not new and the film is not quite as clever or as knowing as it likes to think it is. That being said, it is a good watch and there is a terrific action sequence located in the Gugenheim which is certainly one of the best that has been committed to film in a while.
Where the story is so large, it is clear that the manner in which to bring the story to a close is going to be problematic and this is where my attention starting towain in the last third of the film. The direction that the story takes was very predictable and the way that Naomi Watt's character is literally forgotten about was very poor.
This is a very slick film and there is a lot to be entertained by, its just a shame that the story became so flawed towards the end...
