Review of The International (2009) by Christine W — 27 Dec 2009
Interpol Agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) are investigating the International Bank of Business and Credit (IBBC), one of the world's most powerful banks. While uncovering illegal activities including money laundering, arms trading, and the destabilization of governments, Salinger and Whitmans investigation takes them to Berlin, Milan, New York and Istanbul. Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their investigation puts their own lives at risk as the bank will stop at nothing - even murder - to continue financing terror and war.
I like Clive Owen and Naomi Watts is never bad. But, I felt that both of them were on autopilot here. "The International" is well made thanks to Tom Tykwer, intense at times and the story offers you an insight on who is really running the world. Still, I felt a bit detached to the movie and sometimes even bored in between. I reckon "The International" is too much of a standard thriller in my eyes at least. Not bad, but not jippi-kay-ey either.
