Review of The Intern (2015) by Junelkean — 05 Jul 2017
Wanna feel fuzzy and warm on the inside? Want a perfect movie to watch while travelling on an airplane? Well, from the director of feel-good comedies such as Something's Gotta Give and It's Complicated, Nancy Meyers once again gives us a bunch of delightful characters, beautiful interior designs and cuteness on her movie, The Intern.
Robert de Niro plays 70 year old Ben, a retired widow who seizes the opportunity to become a senior intern on Jules' (Hathaway) company. And thanks largely to the pleasant performances and the overflowing chemistry by the two lead actors, this film is a gentle yet well-acted feel-good comedy filled with lessons in life, love and career.
De Niro uses his charm, wisdom and sense of humor to fill in the shoes of his character with class. While Hathaway is an overworked mom and wife who fits her role perfectly. It also stars Adam DeVine, Rene Russo and Andrew Ranells who are funny.
On the contrary, the plot becomes ridiculous for quite some times and some of the scenes might be cut off.
VERDICT: DeNiro and Hathaway's genuine chemistry, plus beautiful signature set pieces from Meyers, makes The Intern, pleasantly charming.
