"Robert De Niro is back in his comfort zone in this pleasant comedy from Nancy Meyers".

Movie Review: The Intern.

Date Viewed: September 30 2015.

Written and Directed By Nancy Meyers (What Women Want, The Holiday, It's Complicated and Something's Gotta Give).

Writer and director Nancy Meyers is like a cute little poodle, even though the dog performs the same tricks, she still loves her owner. Meyers' movies have become comfort food for female audiences. After making "What Women Want", "Something's Gotta Give" and "It's Complicated", Meyers is back with another female-centric comedy. "The Intern" is a gentle and funny work-place comedy that works mostly because of the likable chemistry between Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. Meyers has finally put Bobby back in his comfort zone after making so many terrible movies (The Big Wedding, Grudge Match, Little Fockers, Last Vegas and The Bag Man).

Robert De Niro plays Ben Whittaker, a widower and retired executive who decides to get back in the working game because nothing much happens in his life anymore.

Even though he is in his 70s, Ben Whittaker decides to become an intern at a fast-growing online fashion company. Ben is assigned to work with founder and CEO Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), who is at first skeptical about him due to his age. Eventually, Jules comes to like Ben and she let's him become her chauffeur.

Likeable and reliable, everybody in the work place likes Ben and he gets attracted to Fiona (Rene Russo) who is the in-house massage therapist. Jules is married to her stay-at-home husband, Matt (Anders Holm) and has a little daughter named Paige (JoJo Kushner). When Ben is assigned to drive Paige to a kids' birthday, he discovers Matt kissing another woman. It all indicates that Matt can't hold on to his marriage because Jules is absent all the time due to her being CEO.

"The Intern" is a pleasant and charming comedy from Nancy Meyers. De Niro and Hathaway have great chemistry together and "The Intern" doesn't have the sitcom feel I saw from the commercials. It is not great cinema but "The Intern" was sweet enough for me to recommend it.
