Review of The Intern (2010) by Kenneth L — 31 May 2016
Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway star in the funny and touching comedy The Intern. Directed by Nancy Meyers, the film follows a retiree who applies for a senior internship with an internet upstart company and gets partnered with the company's overworked and controlling president.
De Niro gives an excellent performance that has a lot of nuance and charm to it. And the writing is rather clever in its commentary on the modern workplace. However, the film's feminist agenda causes some problems; as it ignores the Hathaway character's neglect and mistreatment of her family and that her managerial style has hampered the growth of her employees.
Yet despite some mixed messaging, The Intern is entertaining and fun.
