Review of The Insider (1999) by Ross B — 11 Mar 2010
A brilliant picture made by Michael Mann that really captures not only the media world, but the tobacco industry as well. Russell Crowe is absolutely amazing as a former research head who decides to put his life and his family in danger in order to tell the world the truth about what the cigarette companies are doing.
Al Pacino, in one of his few really good roles in the past 15 years, is also great as a 60 Minutes producer who fights for Crowe's character and tries as hard as he can to help him. The real scene stealer of the movie though is Christopher Plummer as the incomparable Mike Wallace.
The film as a whole is interesting and a much better version of The Informant, which came out ten years after this.
