Review of The Insider (1999) by Ohad A — 29 May 2010
This is an exceptional film and probably Michael Mann's greatest achievement as a director. It tells the true story of ex-tobacco executive Dr. Jeffery Wigand (Russell Crowe) and his intention of revealing top secret information about a tobacco company's product manipulation to increase sales. Wigand puts his and his family's life on the line to let the world know about the truth. Together with Lowell Bergman (Al Pacino), a CBS producer/reporter, he risks it all for justice in this breathtaking drama which gets a solid grip from start and never lets go.
This is a great film which clearly shows that we live in an unjust world. It is unjust because a man may carry all the evidence and still get rejected by the people in power. In a world dominated by big corporations, two men focus on the truth as the only way to justice.
