Review of The Insider (1999) by Hala Z — 16 Jun 2010
Great movie! Great story. Great Actors! Not sure which is better than the other everything worked in this film. Even the cinematography and the abrupt editing worked well for the film. It was like watching a really personal news documentary!
I just loved the chemistry between all the actors. Russell Crowe and Al Pacino bounced off each other so well as the informant and reporter. Christopher Plummer was perfect as the aged news report who takes no shit from nobody, not even the bosses of the network he works for. This man never stops at playing great characters.
Back on Russell Crowe, his portrayal of someone 20 yrs older than his own age was so well done!!! The make up was perfect! Although i'm not a big fan of actors gaining weight to fit the role...it just really screws with their metabolism. Just like Christian Bale losing most of his weight for the Machinist. He almost killed himself. Russell crowe sure did pay for it after Body of Lies. 66 pounds is just to much to gain! He Has been struggling to lose it until now...doesn't seem to be working out too gracefully. Hope he doesn't do it again...
Last but not least... I can't believe tobacco companies were that bad!!! Seriously? Swear that nicotine wasn't addictive? Who the hell are they? Did they think the public were that dumb?...Anyhow glad that Jeff Wigand stepped up and helped out the people...even though he put most of his life on the line...including a possible jail time!
Great movie, will own it when I can afford it.
