Mann and Crowe's best work to date....
Re-watching this film recently, I was struck out how perfectly this film comes together. The cast, direction, screenplay, all working towards telling a story that paints a grim picture of the tobacco industry and the media generally. The film has a sweaty paranoia throughout and the cast clearly realise that they are onto a good thing here. Crowe really digs in here and portrays Jeff Wigand with all of his contradictions, he is so good here. Then we have Pacino at his shouty best (fav scene has to be Pacino unloading at the hotel guy on the phone) who lays out cold the complex and corrupted corporate worlds that the story is based around. Christopher Plummer is awesome, making the most of the time that he has on camera, his showdown with Gina Gershon's character in particular is pure gold.
Films like this very rarely come along which is a real shame.
