Review of The Insider (1999) by Dan G — 28 Dec 2013
Mike Wallace must have been flattered to learn that Christopher Plummer would portray him in The Insider, although the depiction of Wallace was a bit less than flattering (what with his spiel about legacy over the right thing to do).
Pacino's portrayal of Lowell Bergman was edgy, provacative, and pretty much protagonistic throughout. I felt that Russell Crowe's portrayal as Jeffrey Wigand was a bit amiss as he was a bit wooden and reserved, save for some emotional outbursts (but that's Crowe in a nutshell).
The story was compelling and wonderfully told, especially since I wasn't really in the know of these somewhat recent historic events. The Insider has that feel of modern movies like Argo and Michael Clayton and is probably the earliest of this "feel" of a film that I can remember.
