Review of The Insider (1999) by Simon T — 16 May 2015
Few Hollywood directors are making movies as intelligent, involving and well-acted as Michael Mann. Even at over 150 minutes this portrait of moral courage and its heavy price never loses its grip. Pacino and Crowe are wonderful in the main roles, but the fine performances also include Christopher Plummer and Philip Baker Hall.
Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke's ominous underscore and Dante Spinotti's darting camerawork are major plusses. As good as All The President's Men, Three Days of the Condor, The Parallax View, The Conversation etc.
