Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Kevin R — 28 Jul 2012
Everyone needs a taste of their own medicine once in a while.
Luke and Claire are a pair of Innkeepers at a boring hotel that has a history of a poltergeist residing in the building that is trying to get to eternal rest. Claire often researches the legend while Luke pretty much dismisses the stories. When a strange elder actress arrives in the building Clair may receive the help she needs to unleash the poltergeist. Once the poltergeist is unleashed Clair may not like what she sees.
"It's like saying I love you during sex. It doesn't count.".
Ti West, director of The House of the Devil, Cabin Fever 2, V/H/S, and the upcoming The ABCs of Death and The Side Effect, delivers Innkeepers. The storyline for this picture is a bit slow but contains great character development and a magnificent conclusion. The acting is also great and the cast includes Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Alison Bartlett and Kelly McGillis.
"I know a little bit about a lot of things.".
The Innkeepers is another film I have been excited to see for a little while since DC had it on the back cover of every new comic earlier this year. A friend recently brought this to my house and I found it very well delivered and written but a little slower than I anticipated. This is a nice addition to the poltergeist genre and a fresh new horror film that is worth your time; however, it is far from an all time classic and not on the level of Frightners.
"I just work at the hotel.".
Grade: B.
