Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by John P — 21 Aug 2012
I like Ti West, I really do. Cabin Fever 2 was atrocious, and not in a fun way, but House of the Devil was excellent. Now comes The Innkeepers. I will first admit that I do NOT enjoy haunted house movies.
They all feel regurgitated to me, and none offer something new. The Innkeepers offers nothing new. The direction is good, the suspense is decent, and the performances are okay. It just seemed to go nowhere on a trip to a letdown destination.
Sara Paxton, however, is quickly becoming a very reliable horror movie actress (As she was in Last House and Shark Night). She is gung ho here, and I hope she keeps making good decisions if she stays in this genre.
Horror needs good female non-bimbo leads.
