Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Jim P — 28 Dec 2012
Equally as funny as it is scary, "The Innkeepers" is a fun and frightening old-fashioned ghost story that proves once again that Ti West is a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre. The movie has plenty of atmosphere and mood to go along with a healthy dose of humor, which gives the audience some room to breathe before the big "BOO!" moment.
Sara Paxton and Pat Healy are a likeable pair of protagonists who anchor the movie well, and Kelly McGillis is an enjoyable presence as Leanne Rease-Jones. Director West sticks to the "less is more" formula and the movie works largely because of the big build-up.
It's not as great as West's previous whopper "The House of the Devil," but "The Innkeepers" is a very good follow-up.
