Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Rachel S — 22 Feb 2013
I say this is a vast improvement over The House of the Devil, and one of the better horror movies I've seen. The movie starts off painfully slow, so slow that one could mistake this for an indie comedy about slackers who work at a motel. Eventually, the director builds it up and fills it with an impending sense of terror and dread in all the right areas. There is good acting and characterization, as well as apparent themes.
Some look into the film a bit deeper and see a different layer to the storytelling, which I discovered to be brilliant. Whether this aspect was done on purpose or not is unknown, but ultimately it gives another dimension to a solid horror film.
