Review of The Informant! (2009) by Terry Spartan S — 23 Oct 2011

This is a good film, but not great. I admire what Soderbergh did with this movie and how he tried to make a comic relief as apposed to just your average thriller, which I think if any other director took on this project it would have been just your normal thriller of a business worker turning informant.

Matt Damon plays Mark Whitacre, a rising star in the agricultural business, who turns informant when he is involved in price fixing because he tells the F.B.I that he feels really bad about it. Only for the F.

B.I to find out along the way as the case is coming closer to coming to an end, the F.B.I begins to find out that Mr. Whitacre is not as innocent as he claims to be, which causes the whole case to blow up in their face as they unravel more and more about Mr.

Whitacre. Matt Damon gives one of his most impressive performances in "The Informant!" And gained weight for the film, I think it was like 30 pounds, I'm not sure, but it definitely did for him for what "Raging Bull," did for Robert DeNiro.

Matt Damon and Soderbergh have such great chemistry in their movies that, you definitely see it through Matt Damon's performance in this movie in particular, and I hope they continue to work with each other because they definitely have something.

For me though what really gave this movie it's true form was the score, which gives a very funny, enlightening, and amusing score to listen too and not take the movie to seriously, but to just sit back and watch it for what it is.

Matt Damon's performance though is the key to this movie and makes you keep watching just to see and think "Is this man stupid?" "And why would he risk everything for his job, and just keep his mouth shut?" But you have to watch the movie and find out, as I don't like to give away any spoiler only if the movie really sucked! And if it did, I wouldn't be wasting my time writing a review for it.
