Review of The Infidel (2010) by Samantha S — 09 Aug 2010
Mostly non-practicing London Muslim whose son is about to marry the stepdaughter of a Muslim extremist suddenly finds out he's Jewish. He ends up striking up with the Jewish neighbor across the way he'd hated (just because he was Jewish and there when the news was sinking in), and proceeds to learn more about being Jewish - and being Muslim (for the meeting with the prospective in-law) at the same time.
Original? No, something very similar also happened in the British comedy "Leon the Pig Farmer" but still, the movie says a lot of about realizing who you are is more than your religion but your religion is still a part of you and about friendship.
The first half is an absolute riot (especially at the bar mitzvah) and the second half is slower but still a sweet movie that'll give you some laughs. Interesting to see noted Brtish stars who are Jewish as such, including Matt Lucas and David Schneider.
