Review of The Infidel (2010) by Ana B — 11 Jan 2011
Comedy about a muslim minicab driver that finds out after his mother death that he was adopted, further research reveals that he was born a jew. All this information makes a deep impact in his beliefs, his culture and his thinking. Very conflicted indeed he chooses to hide it from his wife and son and takes the step to approach a jewish neighbour to find out about his origins.
The movie explores interesting issues: nature against nurture, identity and religious prejudice. I believe it could have been better, the end is slightly too happy and solves nothing much about the original problem. But it is funny and, to certain extent, uplifting.
Omid Djalili is really hilarious as "tortured" soul looking for a way out of the mess his life has become, and so is Richarcd Schiff, his jewish counterpart.
