Review of The Infidel (2010) by Michael K — 22 Apr 2011
You know this film wasn't that bad. Omid Djalili I find is a bit of a one trick pony in terms of his comedy but he plays this comedy "straight" and whilst it doesn't have the legs to be funny throughout it has its moments. I blame the Baddiel script ( he was always the smarter but less funny partner in the Newman and Baddiel and Baddiel and Skinner axes but his intellectual socialist commentaries were always entertaining).
Synopsis? Devout muslim family man whose son is about to marry an Islamic fundamentalist's daughter finds out he was actually an adopted Jew. An identity crisis and hilarity apparently ensues.
The funniest part for me is when Mahmood tries to learn Jewish customs from his Jewish cabdriver neighbour. Watching him being force fed Jewish chicken broth like a toddler refusing his supper had me in stitches.
It's like Face/Off without the violence but with skullcaps and hooks...
