Review of The Indian Runner (1991) by Paul T — 25 Feb 2009
This is the film that really turned me on to Sean Penn in a big way. It's a dark, brooding sombre tale filled with violence and pent up emotion, and although the film itself may not be perfect, from my first viewing, it amazed me the depth of performances Penn has drawn, particularly from Viggo Mortensen and David Morse.
I also find Penn's insight into the pure raw emotion and potential for violence which lies within each of us, is fascinating, and his expression of it has evolved as he has grown as a film maker. A stunning and original directorial debut.
