Review of The Independent (2007) by Robert F — 10 Aug 2008
Considering my film school lecturer co-wrote and co-directed this, I guess I can't really give it any less than five stars. But I kid. My rating is genuine. It was really enjoyable. They had a Q&A session after the screening, and one person pointed out that while most political films are either entirely dramatic or entirely comedic, The Independent combined the two elements beautifully.
I thought the same. Amidst a lot of laughs, there was somewhat of a dark thread throughout the film (particularly towards the end) - and I really liked that about it. The actors were all excellent. Lee Mason was especially lovable as Marty - he carried the film well.
And Sylvie, Tony and Chris were really good too. Congrats, Andrew! Awesome film.
