Review of The Incredibles (2004) by Michael P — 25 Apr 2013
This is a great example of Pixar taking a certain genre or theme and doing something very new & different with it. There's been no other big Hollywood film about a superhero family. It really makes you wonder why other big superhero films aren't animated; there's so much more you can do with their powers and the action.
Some sequences like the scene where Dash gets chased by the henchmen on the island, that couldn't have been shown in live action as well as animation did. There's so much potential in animated superheroes.
It's an interesting setup as well; a suburban family with superpowers and a former superhero dad in a mid life crisis wanting to live the superhero glory days. I also found it had an element of James Bond with the whole island and snooping around, investigating it.
The soundtrack in this is also fantastic, there's a sense of class and old school to it that really goes well with the film. I also enjoyed the villain; he didn't have a typical "take over the world" motive.
Not only is this one of Pixar's finest, I'd say it's one of the finest the superhero genre has to offer in cinema.
