Review of The Incredible Melting Man (1977) by Brian S — 02 Nov 2012
Old school, B-grade, very drippy sci fi horror that makes it clear once and for all why man must never go to Saturn. The sun gets very, very big there and you'll come back to earth and drip all over everybody''s floors and generally not get invited to parties anymore.
Aside from the sheer gross out factor, there's nothing very remarkable about this movie... except for the presence of Rick Baker on special effect make-up. Baker would go on to become one of the greats in his field, working on everything from "An American Werewolf in London" to a couple of the X-Men movies.
Other than that, the acting is bad, the writing is bad, and the lack of continuity makes this true mess of a movie waaaaaaaay more fun than it should be. And just wait until you see Burr DeBenning emote.
On second thought, don't. The movie ends before he manages to change his facial expression. On the other hand, costumes change randomly, body parts appear and disappear, and melty fleshy stuff gets liberally smeared all over the place.
Incredible? No. Melting? Yes.
