Review of The Incredible Hulk (2008) by Mattk. — 20 Jun 2008
"The Incredible Hulk" is a step in the right direction for the franchise, but that doesn't mean it's all that good. Maybe it is, and maybe the shock of how great "Iron Man" was and anticipation of how awesome "The Dark Knight" will be built a 2008 comic book standard that "The Incredible Hulk" could never live up to.
Something about how the film was paced bothered me. It barely had a sense of humor, which was a great letdown. Edward Norton, one of my favorite actors, didn't get the job done. It isn't like this is a character with no personality---Bruce Banner is a very intriguing character who could have substantial depth to him when put on film, but I didn't feel that Norton pulled it off.
The two things that make this film truly worth watching are Tim Roth and the action scenes. The first Hulk scene was awesome, as was the second, and the third...all the way until the end. All in all, standard procedure comic book movie with great action lifts it just above average.
"Iron Man" beats it in every category.
