Review of The Incredible Hulk (2008) by Barneyonmt — 05 Jan 2016
WHAT I LIKE: A satisfying entry to the MCU 2 months after the fun 'Iron Man,' Edward Norton does well in a fairly conventional comic-book movie before Marvel realised they could get away with shaking up the rule book. In 'The Incredible Hulk,' a good job is done over 2003's 'Hulk' film, and Marvel succeds in portraying Banner's despair well, and creating some action-filled CGI eye-candy for us too. .
WHAT I DON'T LIKE: It could have been really exciting or dark, but came out somewhere odd imbetween, the tone feeling pushed and pulled constantly and the overall film experience feeling dragged out. Also, the plot is failry formulaic, plus he dark visuals and emotional music get tiring at times.
VERDICT: Better than Hulk films of old, Marvel freshens the franchise, but it's still not their best work. The Incredible Hulk is a good film, but struggles to be the entertaining or dark film it could have been.
