Review of The Incredible Hulk (2008) by Isaac B — 23 Mar 2015
There are many things about The Incredible Hulk that are very entertaining and there are many moments which I consider high quality comic-book movie moments. My first impression is how I love the direction they took the character of Bruce Banner for this film. It adds a completely new spin on a superhero character when their biggest fear is their power. That is what makes this movie able to hold its own against other comic-book movies.
As many are aware, there are certain aspects holding this movie back from being considered as good as its competition Iron Man which came out in the same year. Not only could the villain have been handled with slight more seriousness but some of the characters in general seemed underdeveloped and could have taken a more real approach. Also, the relationship between Liv Tyler's Betty Ross and Edward Nortan's Bruce was very boring to watch which did not help in making the audience care for them together. That in turn, takes away some of the emotion the director Louis Leterrier was probably hoping for.
To rap up, Edward Nortan's Bruce Banner was great and his emotional and physical struggles were seen clearly and perfectly. Lastly, the fight scene at the end between Hulk and Abomination is what any Hulk fan would want from a final confrontation in a Hulk solo film. Not the strongest seed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but definitely not the weakest as well.
