Review of The Incredible Hulk (2008) by Alex H — 29 Aug 2013
'The Incredible Hulk' turns out to just be pretty good. I must say, straight off the bat, that despite the cartoonish CG, I enjoyed Ang Lee's version of 'Hulk'. I think Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly play their parts more convincingly than Ed Norton and Liv Tyler, and I think the Hulk actually had dimension in the other one.
Here, Ed Norton claims that being the Hulk is like an acid trip . . . okay? Liv Tyler kind of stands there, akwardly, and I'm sick of Marvel handing out villains who are almost exactly like the hero they're trying to defeat.
I can't wait for the next Batman movie. DC knows how to give us fun, unique, and ultimately scary villains. Marvel doesn't. The villain, played by Tim Roth, is almost identical to the Hulk, and their fight, of course, consists of the villain beating the crap out of the hero until the hero, miraculously gets the strength to beat the villain unconcsiously.
There is one shot in the Hulk that made my jaw drop to the floor, and I don't think that it was CGI. It's a massive helicopter shot, showing us a series of apartments built on top of one another, and I couldn't beleive it when I saw it.
The action sequences are pretty fun too. For the most part. I'd recommend the Hulk, but also advise you not to expect too much.
