Review of The Incredible Hulk (1977) by Aaron R — 26 Apr 2013
First things first: This is far superior to Ang Lee's artistic mess yet is still far from a masterpiece. Lacking the irony of iron man and the substance of Batman Begins, its failures are overshadowed by the two most amazing action sequences seen in recent years.
The campus showdown and the finale in NY are spectacular and absolutely thrilling. HULK SMASH is definitely one of my fave movie moments for the year now. The action combined with the many fanboy moments - cameos, purple pants etc help ease the fact that the screenplay is ordinary (the first half hour is particularly clunky) and that the performances sub standard (Tyler, Roth and Hurt I point the finger at you).
Good but not great. But hey as I said, after Ang Lees debacle it's nice to see this character get a bigger and better screen outing.
