Review of The Imposter (2012) by William S — 26 Aug 2012
A fascinating, gripping, and well executed documentary with a true cinematic feel. Having not heard of the real-life story before seeing this film I was genuinely surprised and horrified at each twist and turn.
The interviews are done fantastically well, really getting to the bottom of the main protagonist's hopes, motivations and reasoning. The film doesn't give you many answers, but rather builds the case and leaves you to decide from the evidence what you think actually happened. It makes a refreshing change that the audience is treated in this way; presuming intelligence and maturity instead of their opposites.
This is the best film of its kind I have seen in a long, long time and I must see for anyone looking for something provocative, thought-inspiring and genuinely unique.
