Review of The Imposter (2012) by Nic M — 28 May 2013
"Chameleon" Frederic Bourdin and the family of Nicholas Barclay, the missing San Antonio teen he so famously impersonated, weigh in on the famous case. It's hard to like or trust any of them, but the tension they must have all been under can be keenly felt.
The documentary introduces the notably wonderful investigator Charlie Parker, who was the first to absolutely and publicly call out Bourdin as a fraud, and who continues to seek answers in the Barclay disappearance.
I had read the New Yorker piece and was fascinated to watch Bourdin's manipulation in action. He is so astute a psychologist, you can't help wanting to take his word.
