The Imposter is so shocking and disturbing that it's difficult to believe that it's a true story. It's totally unpredictable, and much larger then what it seems. At one moment you'll feel comfortable that you know exactly what is going on, what kind of movie this is, and then as the plot develops be dropped back into uncertainty.
The footage in this film, part of it being real and part of it reenactment, seamlessly transitions from one to the other. The ending (like real life) leaves you with important unanswered questions, which, apparently, is bothersome for some viewers.
Regardless, The Imposter is an amazing Documentary mystery/drama.
