Review of The Imposter (2012) by Rob L — 21 Dec 2012
A truly outstanding documentary and this in an age when these are legion. The story seems inexplicable to begin with but as things unravel, reasons for the various standpoints the main protagonists present themselves tantalisingly - with no resolution - the private eye who took it upon himself to examine the case is still far from satisfied with his findings.
I first heard about it via an edition of the This American Life podcast and they used it to springboard to other cases of assumed identity. Why did a San Antonio family assume their lost son was back when the person who presented himself had arrived from Spain, speaking in a European accent? Did they attempt to convince themselves or is there more behind it all?
