Review of The Imposter (2012) by Warwick B — 02 Sep 2012
The improbable but astonishingly true story about a 23 year old French confidence trickster, Frederic Bourdin.
Bourdin appears in Spain claiming to be the missing 16 year American Nick Barclay, who disappeared without trace in 1994, three years earlier. Despite looking nothing like Nick - darker skin tone, different colour eyes, clearly much older, thick accent and poor English, Bourdin cons not only police and immigration officials from both Europe and the United States but also Nicholas' family who are all too willing to accept him as one of their own. The story gets even stranger as it unfolds like a Hollywood thriller, twists and all.
A preposterous tale you couldn't make up.
