Review of The Impossible (2012) by Derik M — 08 Oct 2013
The Impossible is a beautiful and unforgettable film.
Fantastic acting all around; Naomi Watts (being nominated for her role) and newcomer Tom Holland give powerhouse performances. Watts carries most of the opening of the film with pure bravado and dedication, fully utilizing her desperate situation. Holland, on the other hand, holds his own in every scene. He delivers his lines and emotions breathlessly, ultimately delivering some of the post powerful and memorable moments. Keep an eye on this kid!
The tsunami scenes are, without a doubt, the most realistic disaster recreations I have ever experienced in cinema. I found my heart stopped and my throat in the pit of my stomach for the entirety. If you aren't interested in the unbelievable true story (which you should be), then at least take the time to watch this heartfelt film for these scenes alone. They will leave you exhausted.
What an unpredictable thing nature can be. Yet, this gem of a film shows us that the human spirit can conquer any situation, no matter how big or impossible it may seem.
8/10 Beachside Resorts.
