Review of The Impossible (2012) by Panta O — 04 Jun 2013
This English-language Spanish disaster drama was a movie recommended to me by one of my RT friends. Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and written by Sergio G. Sánchez, the events were based on María Belón and her family's experience of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Popular international cast includes Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland, among others. The film received positive reviews from critics for its direction and its acting, especially for Watts who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role... and despite all of this -I could not find the movie appealing !
It is hard to criticize a movie which deals with a disaster, especially with so many victims, and I want to apologize to everyone who thinks I am insensitive, but this movie could not keep me interested. I finished watching it but it was challenging for most of the time.
I really cannot understand what the fuss is all about, but I have to admit it was perfectly acted most of the time.
