Review of The Impossible (2012) by Mark F — 06 Jul 2014
"The Impossible" is a well named film based on the tragic Indian Ocean Tsunami that occurred in 2004 and focuses on a specific family who survived the disaster, named the Bennets (though their real names, nationalities, and other personal life details have been altered in the film).
It's an emotionally stirring, gritty, and gruesome survival epic that packs powerful acting with agonizing moments of pure suspense and terror. This movie is a true story that is not for the queasy-stomached, and the first 30 to 40 minutes are full of images more frightening than what most horror films have to offer.
It may sound cheesy to say, but the term "triumph of the human spirit" has never sounded more accurate a description for a film than now; especially with scenes where two characters who speak completely different languages have an entire conversation just by simply looking into each others eyes. It's a story about human survival and love, nothing less.
