Review of The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) by Erik M — 19 Jan 2009
Having never read nor seen the play nor the 1952 adaption that I read others mentioning I went into this film with a clean slate. I was delighted at Oscar Wilde's use of language and wit. How much of that was his own words or the embellishment of the script writer I am not sure but the subtleties and colorfulness of the English language during the last century as expressed by Wilde are fun to listen to.
The cast performed well and I was especially enamored of Judi Dench who, by all rights, is a consummate actress who knows her craft well.
