Review of The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) by Love M — 07 Mar 2010
I wanted to like this movie more than I did. Despite good acting and humorous moments, Oscar Wilde's acidic wit gets lost in too much turn of the century British tweeness. Judi Dench and Rupert Everett are especially good at pulling off Wilde's bon mots and retorts. Reese Witherspoon? Not so much. And for whatever reason, the last 30 minutes just seemed bizarre to me.
Oh well, can't love 'em all. Even with Colin Firth as the lead.
