Review of The Imitation Game (2014) by Ginak — 13 Dec 2014
Cumberbatch gives a great and thoroughly believable performance in this film, and is surrounded by an excellent ensemble cast. The film is beautifully judged, and gives both a sense of Turing’s personal genius and tragedy and also his background and milieu by flashing back to his days at school and to the contemporary horrors of the Second World War.
The director keeps up the tension throughout. A beautifully made film, and although I have not seen all of the competition, certainly Cumberbatch's performance is Academy-Award-Nomination level.
