Review of The Imitation Game (2014) by M C — 29 Jul 2016
Although the historical accuracy of the movie strays quite a bit, in certain ways, from the truth. Turing did not invent the machine that cracked the Enigma machine. He improved the design of the Polish "bombe" machine with which the Polish had been deciphering Enigma messages for 6 and a half years up til 1939.
The credit for all the work the Polish did is not even mentioned in the film. But, nevertheless, the movie is outstanding on its own. Cumberbatch is an actor for the ages. I loved the film despite the rewriting of history.
It's Hollywood, and Hollywood can't make an historical film without embellishing or outright rewriting it to the point it no longer resembles the historical event it is portraying.
