Having recently rewatched this film on dvd I am led to the natural conclusion that this is the Citizen Kane for our time as it deals with cinema and recovery. the reality of the death of the starring role has now become an integral part of the film and the recovery and completion through the friends of Heath is such a rare example of an almost unknown inspiration in the movie industry that the film deserves the cult recognition it will no doubt inherit.
It is an edgy film that lacks the comfort that at times it appears to inspire. It is a film to be watched many many times just as all great films should be; each time you will find new and unexpected nuances and strokes of Gilliam genius that on a first watching you may well miss since the overall initial reaction is to be overwhelmed by so many ideas.
