Review of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) by Mad M — 12 Sep 2011
Having different actors play the part of Tony worked. But the CGI didn't. What I always loved about classic Gilliam was the lack of CGI in his films and the reliance of clever sets to tell the story.
I know budgets are tight, but surely it could have been done? The costumes were sumptuous, as where the sets that were actually built - very beautiful and I loved the mix of modern and ancient. The story could have been a lot cleaner.
A LOT cleaner. And it was no where as brilliant as Time Bandits - but well worth a watch never the less. On re-watch this film does deserve more stars for costume, and does make a lot more sense also (like little easter eggs I missed the first time around).
