Review of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) by Tanvir M — 11 May 2014
It has fantastic bits from Terry Gilliam, who is undoubtedly a gifted director, but sadly it doesn't add up to a coherent whole. It does have the curiosity value of having a pre Spiderman Andrew Garfield, a post Dark Knight Heath Ledger in his final (though incomplete) performance, and the wonderful instance of friends helping to finish the film (the friends being super stars Depp, Law and Farrell!), but it could have been so much more.
One speculates though that Ledger's untimely death played havoc with the continuity and coherence, but all in all, a film mostly notable for its lost potential ( sadly, like Ledger himself).
