The illusionist has an understated sense of charm and sentimentality to it. You are constantly feeling for a routing for the Tatischeff whose form of entertainment is but a dying breed in society. His soon only inspiration becomes a young girl who is enchanted by his act.

He does all he can to keep the illusion going to keep her happy even when it is well beyond his means, and soon reality sinks in for him, as she grows up and moves on leaving him alone. The movie well animated and keeps you going just long enough despite the extremely low level of dialogue.
