Review of The Illusionist (2010) by Jamie B — 17 May 2011
It's unfortunate that this has the same title as the Edward Norton/Jessica Biel shitfest of 2006 (I like to pretend Paul Giamatti wasn't in that one since I love him), because, for that reason, it will always be overshadowed in The States by a crappy movie with bigger stars.
The French The Illusionist is a beautifully animated little flick that has the feel of a museum-quality painting but with the addition of movement. I struggled to follow the story due in part to it's extreme lack of dialogue, but mostly to my extreme lack of attention span.
I don't really think it's fair to fault a unique piece of art for my own... hey look there's a dog in the yard!
