Review of The Illusionist (2010) by Steve W — 09 Aug 2013
I haven't seen any of Tati's movies but I still enjoyed the silent film like tone of the movie. The animation is top notch and the story is simple, yet very depressing. I thought it would go in an entirely different direction, such as the girl becoming his apprentice or the magician getting a gig on a tv show.
The Illusionist is a nostalgic homage to an earlier era, but I might require a viewing in the future after viewing some Jacques Tati to truly appreciate it.
