Review of The Illusionist (2006) by Amy C — 11 Mar 2011
I wasn't expecting much after viewing The Prestige, but I was pleasantly suprised. Edward Norton was fantastic, his performance was impressive. I also have to mention that I was rather fascinated by Aaron Johnson's fleeting performance.
The Illusionist was well shot, if not a little rough around the edges. It could have used much more character development, but the lack of character was mainly due to the blankness of the dialogue. At times Edward Norton seemed to be straining to make sections of the dialogue emotional, although it was through no fault of his own.
If you are looking for a story more centred around philosophy then I recommend The Prestige. However, if you are looking for spectacle then I suggest you take a look at The Illusionist.
